'Quilt of Holes' story - very 'soul warming'

Back Porch Quilt Shop is located in Somerset, Kentucky, just east of the intersection of US 27 and the 80 Bypass, on West Mount Vernon Street. Check their ShopFacts link above for a map.

Phyliss Shaw is the owner and developed her love for quilting out of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. She began making memory quilts for all of her family members that had lost everything and fell in love with quilt-making. After her teaching position at the local high school was eliminated, her free time for her new passion required her to drive 35 miles to get to the nearest shop for quilting supplies. One day her husband suggested she open her own shop so she wouldn't have to drive so far and with that, so came Back Porch Quilt Shop on November 14, 2008. She thanks the Lord for creating these events in her life that have pointed her in this direction and she's truly enjoying it.

The shop has a very 'homey' atmosphere with its log cabin decor - fireplace, wood floors and walls - which makes it hard to leave once you get there. As Phyliss says 'you don't have to be a super store or win a blue ribbon to enjoy quilting.'

Phyliss' new adventure has been so successful that she's had to expand her inventory as well as provide classes to meet the demand from her customer base. The shop carries fabrics from the major manufacturers and her classes cover everything from Beginning Machine Quilting to Hand Quilting to Hand Applique as well as everyone's favorite - Block of the Month!

Phyliss loves to share her knowledge and skills with her customers, which is why everyone loves to visit Back Porch Quilt Shop. She enjoys the ability to arrange, create and design to her hearts content. She especially appreciates being able to meet new visitors to the shop who share their quilting stories from all over the country.
